DRAX GOLF CLUB NEWS - 19th July 2008

Th
e June 2008 Minutes are available in Minutes and the latest, July 2008, STRI Report is available at STRI.php.

A COMPETITION!
As you can imagine, there are many ways of assigning the order of playing the 12 holes, and just to make it more interesting, the very short par 3 between the 6th /15th green and the 7th/16th tees, which has been used in some Competitions, is to be included making a total of 13 holes!

All Members are invited to suggest the best way of ordering the 13 holes.
There will be a prize for the best suggestion.

The grant of £212,000 from Sport England for the new 3 holes is being used up rapidly, as you would infer from the activities on the new site. Drainage work  started in March 2008, and the target is to finish within 6 months. Seeding of the fairways and greens has taken place already, and the lake is gradually filling up without any help!

Holes 1 to 9 development
You may have seen that part of the boundary fence behind the 7th tee has been removed and inroads made into the area behind - this is also Drax land; the boundary we are used to was set there for convenience when the course was first laid down). This area is being used as a"dumping" ground for soil taken from the pond adjacent to the nearby new, short par 3 green. Later it is intended that a Competition tee will be formed back there for the 7th.

"Twilight" golf

Visitors can play 9 holes (accompanied by a Member) at the end of the playing day, no more than 2 hours before sundown. Cost - £7. This is, of course of more interest in the Spring and Summer, when visitors only have time, perhaps after work, to play 9 holes.
